Without People..

Posted by Reid Greven on July 30, 2008

I’m reminded that without people and their hearts, talents, abilities and efforts, that Church – any church – would just be a cold, empty place.

God obviously is the bringer of life, but it’s people that make life interesting….

Sunday Summary – Music: July 27, 2008

Posted by Reid Greven on July 29, 2008

Slacker! That’s what I am!

Either that, or concerned, devoted husband and father. (Yeah, let’s go with that one!)

Either way, I’m late on the Sunday Summary, and so I apologize.

And I shouldn’t BE late, especially with this past week’s experience!

This week, I really made a conscious effort to really enter into worship, even (or especially) while playing on stage.

I made a point to really know the music I was playing, and so the music / technical part became second-nature muscle memory, and I was really able to focus my mind and heart on worshipping God.

And that’s kinda the tough thing for band instrumentalists. There’s still good, quality music that needs to be played – the challenge is to do that (your “job”, for lack of a better term), and still consciously enter in to worship and focus on God. That’s tough, no matter what song you’re playing or how well you know it. It does, however, become easier to do the better you know the song.

So band guys, let that be your challenge: Do your “job” so well and effortlessly that you can focus your conscious on worshipping God.

Sorry singers – you have no excuse. ;)

We had Louie Giglio back for the 2nd message of his 2 part series “Home Free – Even Me” this week. The message was titled “Fruitcake and Ice Cream”, and was stinking incredible. You have GOT to watch it on the North Point Web site!

WORSHIP:

God Is Alive by Steve Fee and Eddie Kirkland

Hands of the Healer by Eddie Kirkland

**Both of these tunes will be available on NorthPointMusic.org real soon!!!

CLOSER:

Well, if you listen to Louie’s message, you know he sets up Mighty To Save – and so we did it, with great release from the crowd.

It ended up being quite an emotional response, and one that laid heavy on all our guys. By the end of 3 services, we were all pretty tapped out emotionally.

That’s the sign of a good day :)

East Band – Eddie Kirkland, Danny Grady, Brad Long, Scott Meeder, Richard Meeder, Ryan Stuart, Me

West Band – Casey Darnell, Mike Hines, Jerely Moyers, Earl South, Joe Lee, Jared Hamilton, Jordan Watts

What has tapped YOU out lately?

IPhone Blog test

Posted by Reid Greven on July 28, 2008

Killer! WordPress has created a great iPhone application (and it’s free!!).

Needless to say, a post from an iPhone will be a little shorter…

Anyhoo, here’s a test run, along with an attached photo.

Oooohhhh!

Great Discussion…

Posted by Reid Greven on July 25, 2008

WOW! Yesterday’s post with “Bob’s” question generated some great, detailed responses!

So I’d love to keep this rolling for a bit.

If you are involved in music at your church in ANY WAY, even as an occasional volunteer, I’d love for you to chime in with a comment.

To recap, “Bob” is dealing with some Pastor and Music Directors leadership issues, scheduling issues, and the concept of “set bands” at his local church, and is seeking advice.

Click here to read the question, read other’s responses, and leave your own comments / thoughts / advice…

These are some great topics that I’d love for us to explore…
